Senators are shocked with Dr. Ransom’s high salary

It seems that government employees enjoy higher salaries than individuals in the private sector. Most physicians make $200,000-300,000 a year. An MBA and MPH, combined with a job leading an academic medical center, can take you go a long way to a seven figure salary.

President Ransom announced a year ago that there would be no bonuses this year for anyone at the UNT/HSC but then accepted the only bonus at the Health Science Center for himself saying that it was the UNT System that determined his bonus.

UNTHSC, with annual operating budget of $213 million, pays the president $904,562 per year, i.e., 0.425% of the budget. This is the most generous salary that a medical educator/president receives relative to the size of each institution’s operating budget.
